5.4 Million and Counting: Craft as Activism

  • Kimmel Center at New York University 60 Washington Square South New York, NY, 10012 United States (map)

As America quickly approaches a critical point for the reproductive rights of millions of current and future mothers, Chi Nguyen invites you to learn about and participate in the process of raising awareness for this issue through the powerful and creative processes of “craftivism”.

DESCRIPTION In June 2016, the United States Supreme Court will determine the most important reproductive rights decision in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt. The decision will impact over 266,000 AAPI women and 2.5 million Latina women of childbearing age.

The workshop is aimed to raise awareness for the Supreme Court case through "craftivism" by making physical the number of women whose reproductive rights are at risk. With each line representing an individual woman, the 5.4 Million and Counting project is only finished when all 5.4 million lines are embroidered.
